About Me
Hi, I am Ru, an artist based in South Bristol. Whilst I’m not from Bristol originally, I’ve been here for 25 years and love being part of the community south of the river.
I’ve been creative from an early age, but going through challenges with mental health made it feel hard to connect to. In rediscovering my creativity, I have come to recognise the incredible power of Art to support my wellbeing and that’s something I endeavour to share with others.
As a mixed media artist, I use a variety of materials to create work, but a continued thread is trying to use resources that have a lighter impact on the earth. I am especially drawn to items that have had a life before such as clothes, not only is it great to reuse them, but I love that they contain the stories of their previous life, or that of their wearer.
Aside from my own art work, I love getting involved in community art events, like window trails (where you create an illuminated window in the darker months), having racked up a good number of my own windows or that of community venues, I’m a dab hand with some tissue paper and black card.
