Threads that bind

As my son approached adulthood, I found myself reflecting on my experience of motherhood. I created artwork that allowed space for me to appreciate what had past, accept the things I couldn’t change and adjust to my role as the mum of an adult. In preparing for this new season of letting go, I found myself consoled by the many moments of letting go that had punctuated motherhood.

What developed were a series of works exploring letting go, concluding in a final installation, created from his old school shirts, a flock of birds representing all the months of his life, each decorated with stitches to represent each day in that month. 216 birds, 6574 days of gradually letting go, preparing me for this new season.
